About Johns Hopkins in Singapore

Johns Hopkins Singapore (JHS) was established by The Johns Hopkins University in 1998 as its base of medical operations in South East Asia.  JHS has a tripartite mission of research, education and patient care, integrating basic translational and clinical research components.

Research and educational activities are carried out by the Division of Biomedical Sciences, Johns Hopkins in Singapore (DJHS), which is an academic division of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.  DJHS will initially concentrate on cellular and immuno-therapies with specific interests in stem cell biology, T cell and dendritic cell biology, virology and cancer.  DJHS is an active participant in the Singapore scientific community and also collaborates with local, regional and international research institutes with the aim of developing new therapies and diagnostics.  In June 2004, DJHS moved to the Nanos Building at the Biopolis complex to join the other members of Singapore’s biomedical research community.

The Johns Hopkins-NUH International Medical Centre (IMC) is JHS’ clinical arm for patient care and clinical research activities.  The IMC (a member of the National Healthcare Group) provides Hopkins-quality oncology services to local and foreign private patients in Singapore.  The IMC brings the most up-to-date therapy and new technology to patients with cancer by working in collaboration with researchers at The Johns Hopkins University, DJHS and local experts from National University of Singapore and National University Hospital.  The IMC recently became the first private hospital in Singapore to be awarded the Joint Commission International Accreditation with outstanding overall performance.
