Welcome to Our Department

Frank Frassica, M.D., Professor and Director, Orthopedic Surgery.

Whether the patient is a young person with degenerative hip disease, a car accident victim with severe pelvic trauma, an athlete with knee-ligament damage, or a chronic back-pain sufferer who would like to avoid major spine surgery, orthopaedic specialists at Johns Hopkins have solutions for the most complicated cases.

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Johns Hopkins provides a full complement of specialists, including a spine service, orthopaedic oncology, sports medicine, and adult recostructive, trauma, foot and ankle, pediatrics and hand services.

The Department works closely with physical and occupational rehabiliation specialists who are available to see patients in inpatient, outpatient or home care settings.

complex conditions--and their experience in treating them--Johns Hopkins' orthopaedic surgeons have developed innovative techniques that not only get patients back on their feet quickly, but with greater mobility and less pain.

Our specialists also have expertise in so-called "revision" surgeries, or operations designed to repair what a patient's initial operation was not able to achieve.  Recent advances include minimally invasive procedures for hip replacement and relief of chronic low back pain that avoid the risks and pain of major surgery.
