United Premier Medical Group Ltd (UPMG), a medical services company promoted by Dr. Herbert Wong, sought the consultancy of the Johns Hopkins Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to provide the protocols, procedures, training and quality systems to establish special maternity units within existing hospitals in China. Johns Hopkins Singapore, established in 1999, has become an academic division of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. The new Division of Johns Hopkins in Singapore follows the academic model of the School of Medicine, and will have the same rights and privileges as the other departments and divisions. MORE
Help to Save Child in Brazil
In early 2003, Johns Hopkins International received an e-mail from a social worker in rural Brazil. This social worker described Patrick, a 9-year-old boy with an unusual growth across his back. Patrick, who was diagnosed with a lipoblastoma since birth, has had two surgeries to remove it, at age 3 and 6. MORE

Amcare Labs Malaysia, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins International Laboratories, became operational in the first half of 2003. Anatomical Pathology, Cytopathology and Molecular diagnostics services are now offered by this facility to Malaysia and neighboring countries. MORE
